On Palm Sunday we arrived to find that our worship space, a school auditorium, had been transformed into a circus for a school play. They decided not to take the decorations down and have no intention of doing so anytime soon. So, we had our Palm Sunday and Good Friday service with the circus and clowns as a backdrop. Oh, how we long for a church building!
I love asparagus so I was surprised today when I came out in our front yard (we live off of a very busy street) and found two lonely, very tall stalks of asparagus growing about 3 inches from the street in our lawn. I think I’ll cut and eat them tonight.
"A primary purpose of the educational system is to train school children in good citizenship, patriotism and loyalty to the state and the nation as a means of protecting the public welfare."
Okay, so the dunderheads have completely failed in THE primary purpose of the educational system which is the three R's but they're going to force everyone to stay in the hell holes know as public shools (or pay double for private schools)? And inculcate our children in loyalty...to what? Trust me I spent 12 years in the Los Angeles Unified School District. They won't be trained in loyalty to democratic principles, free trade or patriotism. Sounds like socialism to me.
The leftwing media on my public radio station has been positively giddy over the New York Philharmonics tour of North Korea. Its stunning how selective leftism can be. North Korea, a country whose oppression of its own people exceeds that of Stalinist Russia or Nazi Germany, is a fit ground for cultural interchange? Would the Left be giddy about the NY Phil touring Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union while the ovens were steaming in Auschwitz and the Gulags had their vacancy signs hung? Well, come to think of it they were.
Relativism is a dangerous thing. Especially to the victims of totalitarian regimes whose lifes-pans are prolonged by goofy artistes who think they can change dictators by playing their flutes for them.
